Cashmere is a natural fibre combed from the fine undercoat of cashmere goats, primarily from the high-altitude regions of Central Asia. Each goat produces only a small amount of combable undercoat per year — this scarcity is one reason cashmere commands a premium over other natural fibres. The quality of cashmere varies significantly. The key measure is fibre diameter, expressed in microns: finer fibres (lower micron count) produce a softer fabric with less tendency to pill. We note the micron count on each cashmere product page where this information is confirmed by our supplier.
