Cotton

The everyday essential. Breathable, reliable, and comfortable for everyday wear.

Knitted in Japan

Cotton is a natural plant fibre grown from the seed pod of the cotton plant. It is one of the most widely used textile fibres in the world — which means it is also one of the most varied. The quality of cotton depends significantly on the length of the fibre (the staple length), the way it is spun, and the way it is finished. We select cotton yarns for their length and consistency. Longer-staple cotton produces a smoother, more consistent yarn than short-staple commodity cotton. We note the specific yarn characteristics on each product page where this information is available from our suppliers.

Fibre properties

Cotton (staple length varies by product — see product page). Knit and weave structure varies by product (jersey, rib, interlock). Breathability: High. Warmth: Neutral. Stretch depends on structure — rib has more stretch than jersey. Care: Machine wash cold, gentle cycle. Do not tumble dry at high heat.

On the body

How cotton feels in wear.

Cotton has a natural, slightly matte surface and a neutral handfeel — neither particularly warm nor cool. It is breathable in warm weather and comfortable against the skin for most people in everyday wear. Cotton softens with washing over time.

When to wear

Spring and summer. Suitable year-round as a base layer.
