Wool

Material

Wool

A natural insulating fibre with a range of weights and textures. Warm, breathable, and resilient.

Processed and knitted in Japan

Wool is a natural fibre from the fleece of sheep. It is one of the oldest textile fibres and one of the most technically capable: it insulates when dry, manages moisture well, and is naturally resilient — meaning it tends to return to its original shape after stretching or compression. Wool varies significantly by breed, fibre diameter, and processing method. Merino wool — from Merino sheep — is among the finest grades and is commonly used in garments worn close to the skin. We specify the wool type and fibre characteristics on each product page where this information is confirmed by our supplier.

Fibre properties

Wool (breed, grade, and micron count confirmed per product). Knit and weave structure varies by product. Breathability: Good. Warmth: Moderate to warm (varies by weight and gauge). Moisture management: Good — wool can absorb moisture without feeling wet. Stretch: Moderate (depends on structure). Care: Hand wash cold or delicate machine cycle with wool detergent. On the body

How wool feels in wear.

The handfeel of wool depends on the fibre diameter. Fine-grade wool has a soft handfeel that most people find comfortable against the skin. Coarser grades have more texture and are better suited to outerwear or mid-layers.

Wool is a natural protein fibre. Individual sensitivity varies. If you have known sensitivities to wool, we recommend trying the specific piece against your skin before extended wear.

When to wear

Autumn and winter. Suitable in cool spring and autumn conditions.
